Credit Card Deals Can Help You Abroad
[01/15/2008]
Do you like to travel abroad and discover new countries and new cultures? If you do, then your credit card can be extremely helpful for you! Carrying cash in your wallet is not always safe as there is a threat of being robbed.
Today credit card companies offer hundreds of credit card deals for you to use in foreign countries. So before going on vacation or on business abroad, don't forget to take your credit card with you! Simply swipe your card and purchase everything you need!
Using your card abroad is very comfortable as you don't need to carry cash from one place to another. You don't have to be scared that your wallet can be stolen and you will be left without money far away from home! Credit cards issued by major credit card companies like Visa, MasterCard or Discover are accepted by most retailers all over the world.
There are many other benefits from credit card usage:
- It is safe! Most credit cards offer the insurance policy that means you will be covered in case of any loss or credit card theft. Together with your credit card you will get a list of toll-free numbers where you can call in case you loose your card or in case it is stolen.
The insurance will also cover all the expenses concerning the replacement of your card.
You also have to take into consideration that when you are at home, the refund policy covers all your expenses in case you are not satisfied with goods, but when you are abroad it is not always this way! Sometimes you will not be able to get a refund. You may have the best credit card, but if there is no agreement between your credit card issuer and the supplier of goods, you won't be able to get your money back! The reason for this is that not all countries have this kind of consumer protection, so you should check this information with your credit card company.
- For most travelers foreign currency is the biggest issuer when traveling overseas. The exchange rate varies from bank to bank and some people make horrible mistakes trying to get a better deal. They exchange their money from unofficial currency exchangers and simply get ripped off!
My friend Jarred once went to Bulgaria and decided to exchange dollars from unofficial exchangers. As a result he lost $300!
Using your credit card, you don't even need to exchange money! But in case you do need some cash, it is always safe to get it from ATM machine.
But you have to beware of fees! Some credit card companies charge extra fees for foreign transaction. The fees are not very high, usually 2% of the purchase price, but you should think twice if you want to make a big purchase!
My cousin Lilly had a cash back credit card, which she used while she was on holiday in Spain. She bought a nice ring there (the ring was not cheap at all) and paid with her card for it. She was very surprised when she returned back to the States and had to pay a fee for that nice purchase.
So before using your card abroad, you should find out all about the extra fees for overseas transaction!
Enjoy your traveling abroad using credit card offers available on the market! Bon voyage!

It has been acknowledged that “there’s too much easy credit” available and banks are concerned that cardholders have access to spending limits they are not able to repay and as a result tighten lending rules.
